The Metropole is dropping bombs and names with a new Pho-nomenal cocktail inspired by the iconic hotel’s rich history.

The Joan Baez mixes five herbs: coriander, cardamom, star anise, cinnamon and chilli — the base of a good bowl of pho — using an extravagant “bomb” technique of dropping all the ingredients from cup to cup in a tree.

The concoction won chief bartender Pham Tien Tiep first prize at a competition in Nha Trang and a trip to Rio De Janeiro to take on the world’s best mixologists. The taste? “It’s bittersweet, just like a Joan Baez song,” said the hotel’s marketing and communications manager, Le Nhung.

Vietnam’s most ridiculous cocktail is available all day every day at the Sofitel Metropole, 15 Ngo Quyen, Hoan Kiem
