In 2006 Chryde (La Blogothèque’s founder) and French filmmaker Vincent Moon started ‘Take Away Shows’. Armed with only a camera and a mic or two the pair went around filming whichever bands and musicians happened to be in Paris at the time, in various locations such as Parisian streets, on buses, in the metro, in parks, restaurants, parking lots, friends’ apartments, bookshops, along the Seine or across Montmartre.
The music is mostly improvised and the filming done in a single take. Many have likened the feeling of ‘Take Away Shows’ to films such as Paris Je T’aime or Amélie, though wrapped in spontaneity and influenced by new-wave and guerrilla filmmaking.
Until now there have been at least 300 sessions, with contributions from a wide range of artists, including Beirut, Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes, SigurRós, Caribou, Mojave 3, Stuart Staples (of Tindersticks), Keren Ann, Bon Iver, YannTiersen, The National, and many others.
The Goethe Institut Hanoi is located at 56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh. For more information, go to facebook.com/theonioncellar or email onioncellarproject@gmail.com
