After months of speculation, low-cost carrier VietJetAir has finally commenced ticket sales for its inaugural flights later this month.

With four daily flights between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City starting operation on Dec. 24, VietJet comes into the market as the fourth airline in Vietnam. It will be the first private carrier in this country to fly domestic and international routes - flights to Danang will commence in early 2012 and routes between Vietnam and the rest of Asia will be launched around the middle of next year. According to the airline, overseas destinations soon to be available will include Macau, Singapore, Hong Kong and various locations in Japan, China and South Korea. To aid this expansion, the carrier hopes to develop its fleet of three newly purchased Airbus A320 aircraft to 12 vessels by October 2014.

Operating as a budget, no frills airline, with additional costs for purchasing luggage allowances, choosing seating and changing flight bookings, the company’s motto is to provide Vietnamese and foreign residents as well as tourists to Vietnam with flexibly-priced and affordable air tickets, thus "stimulating the development of business, travel, and investment in the country". To aid safety, foreign pilots and engineering supervisors have been added to the mix.

As well as the main booking offices in Hanoi (HD Bank, 32 Tran Hung Dao, Hoan Kiem) and Ho Chi Minh City (8 Cong Truong Quoc Te, Q3), 200 agencies around the country will sell VietJetAir tickets and flights can also be booked online at www.vietjetair.com or by calling their hotline - 1900 1886. Flights start at VND900,000 for a one-way trip between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
