Saving the Old Quarter for Who?

Mostly when I hear people commenting on the lack of conservation in Hanoi, it’s expats complaining that the concrete, mock-villa adjacent to them in Tay Ho is being torn down and replaced with apartments.

 

It’s a reasonable representation that what we think needs conserving and what we think Hanoi really needs depends on our own agenda, background and experiences.
